Collaboration of PT SMI Economic Research Division with InterCAFE LPPM IPB Studies Waste Sector in Indonesia

Good waste management not only produces a clean area, but also the welfare of the community and the productivity of the area. Based on this understanding, the Economic Research Division of PT SMI collaborated with InterCAFE LPPM IPB to conduct a Waste Sector Study in Indonesia. By taking the case study of Surabaya City, the results of this study were communicated through socialization on December 10, 2024.

Good waste management in an area can have positive impacts such as:

  • Preserving environmental cleanliness and quality
  • Ensuring public health standards
  • Increasing regional productivity
  • Encouraging economic growth

In the socialization, InterCAFE LPPM IPB represented by Prof. Arief Sabdo Yuwono and Dr. Syamsul H. Pasaribu, conveyed several important points from the study, such as:

  • Food waste and plastic are the largest waste categories in Indonesia
  • Solving the waste problem requires a comprehensive approach
  • Collaboration between the government, private sector, and the community is the key to overcoming the waste problem

Attended by the Surabaya City Government, the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Treasury (DJPb) of East Java Province, and the private sector, the socialization of this study has several objectives, namely:

  • Providing insight into effective waste management
  • Identifying opportunities for collaboration in improving the quality of waste sector infrastructure at the district and city levels in Indonesia

This socialization program reflects the commitment of the PT SMI Economic Research Division in presenting in-depth analysis as a basis for infrastructure financing by PT SMI. This step is taken to increase the effectiveness of development that can have a good impact on the community, including in managing waste sector issues.
