MoU signing between PT SMI and USAID IUWASH Tangguh

Access to clean water and proper sanitation is a human right that has been established at the UN General Assembly in 2010. Clean water and sanitation are also one of the points in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely SDGs number 6.

Based on the 2021 National Socioeconomic Survey (Susenas), the Government's targets for drinking water are:

  • The target of 100% access to proper drinking water in 2024, will only reach 90.78% in 2021
  • Target of 15% access to safe drinking water in 2024, only to reach 12% in 2021
  • Target of 30% access to piped drinking water in 2024, only reaching 19% in 2021

PT SMI as the Ministry of Finance's Special Mission Vehicle (SMV) also supports this target through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with USAID Indonesia Urban Water, Sanitation, & Hygiene (IUWASH) Tangguh between the Director of Public Financing & Project Development PT SMI - Faaris Pranawa with Tangguh Chief of Party of USAID IUWASH – Mrs. Alifah Lestari.

This collaboration between PT SMI and USAID IUWASH Tangguh is a continuation of the USAID IUWASH Environmental Health for All (PLUS) program which ended in early 2022. This collaboration includes assistance in plans to provide financing to Regional Governments, BUMDs, BLUDs, and/or Business Entities in the drinking water and sanitation sector which is expected to help achieve SDGs in Indonesia, especially Clean Water and Sanitation.
