PT SMI strives to be a responsible business and is committed to being transparent about its investments. To do so, we have a Green Bond Framework that ensures investors are made aware of the allocation of proceeds and a report that looks into the impact of green projects.

Our business is committed to sustainability, and we make every effort with our financing services to stay true to this commitment. PT SMI’s commitment is also in line with the commitment of the Government of Indonesia in realizing the Paris Agreement commitment which aims to protect and maintain ecosystems and environmental quality. We ensure access to green-friendly financing methods, such as the Green Issuance Framework. 

PT SMI has created a Green Bond Framework, which will regulate the way in which projects are selected and the use of proceeds. The framework also requires reporting on how funds are being used. The framework complies with the OJK and Green Bond Principles, all of which are international standards related to the issuance of green bonds. 

The World Bank Group, one of the pioneers for worldwide issuance of green bonds, assisted PT SMI in preparing this framework. PT SMI’s Green Bond will finance projects that will protect, conserve, and improve the quality and function of the environment. These projects include:

The Center for International Climate Research-Oslo (“CICERO”) is a leading environmental expert in the world and has been chosen to provide Second Opinion to PT SMI’s Green Bond Framework. On April 27, 2018, CICERO gave a “Medium Green” opinion to the Green Bond of PT SMI.
