Changes of the Board of Directors of PT SMI on May 29th, 2019
Jakarta, 21 February 2023 - Heading to the 14th Anniversary (HUT), PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (Persero) ("PT SMI") expresses its gratitude for the trust and support from various parties so that PT SMI can carry out its role as Development Financial Institution (DFI) and accelerate development in Indonesia. Trust in PT SMI has increased with the appointment of PT SMI as the Country Platform Manager (CPM) Energy Transition Mechanism (ETM) at the G20 event in 2022. This new mandate gives PT SMI the authority to push energy transition policies in Indonesia and seek creative financing sources to support that matter. Of course without forgetting PT SMI's commitment to continue to have a positive impact on economic, social and environmental growth.
President Director of PT SMI Edwin Syahruzad said, "We continue to discuss and work together with all relevant stakeholders in developing the best scheme to achieve a fair and affordable energy transition. Together with the Ministry of Finance and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), we have also carried out risk identification and prepared risk mitigation plans from environmental and social aspects as a basis for recommendations for energy transition scenarios that will be implemented in the Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment (SESA) involving the ministry/institutions, government agencies and non-profit communities, and academics.”
All the steps and policies taken by this government to achieve Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution will be achieved in 2030 and Net Zero Emissions in 2060. "Indeed, other countries have started earlier, and some have even been free from coal, such as Sweden and several other countries in Europe. However, ETM in Indonesia must still be seen as a journey where every step must be implemented wisely so that the target is achieved," he concluded.
Starting in 2023, PT SMI has also signed a financing agreement for the development of the Ijen Geothermal Power Plant (“PLTP Ijen”) which has a capacity of 110 MW. PLTP Ijen is the first geothermal power plant in East Java province which is expected to become an "enabler" and provide space for the involvement of business actors from the private sector. Support for the Ijen PLTP is one of PT SMI's concrete steps as a concrete action in supporting the energy transition through financing the electricity sector which comes from new, renewable energy.
