PT SMI and Insan Bumi Mandiri Launch 5th Weaving Center

The Roa Rero weaving group, Woja Village, Hewuli Village, West Alok District, Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), is celebrating a historic moment. The reason is, PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (SMI) and Insan Bumi Mandiri Foundation (IBM) have just launched the Maumere Weaving Center, on Thursday 5 October 2023. The Maumere Weaving Center was formed as an effort to empower and assist the Roa Rero weaving group in Woja Village.

Attended by the ASEAN Foundation, IBM Holds Training on Improving the Quality of Weavers. Weaving is an empowerment program initiated by PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (SMI) and Insan Bumi Mandiri Foundation (IBM). Apart from establishing centers for weavers, this program also supports the productivity of weavers in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) by holding a series of training, capacity development and expanding market share.

After starting the first center in Alor in 2018, then continuing with Sumba, Ende, and even Belu, this center in Sikka is the fifth center to be built as a result of this collaboration.

Weaving Empowerment Journey in the NTT Interior: Success Stories of the Tenun.in Program by Insan Bumi Mandiri in EYAA Cohort 3. The launch of the 5th weaving center aims to improve the quality and competitiveness of local woven products. Especially this time from the Roa Rero weaving group, and supporting the development of the Weaving Cluster Foreign Exchange Village in East Nusa Tenggara.

The NTT Weaving Cluster Foreign Exchange Village itself is a collaboration with LPEI (Indonesian Export Financing Institute) which will be carried out in 22 villages in NTT. The provision of the NTT Cluster Foreign Exchange Village program started from Sikka, adding to the specialness and sacredness of the last inauguration event.

At the inauguration event, there was a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Maumere Weaving Center as a sign of joint commitment to improving the quality of life of the weaving group. The event continued with a symbolic handover of thread and loom aid, as real support from the government and strategic partners.

Saban Sabe Sajan Fest 2023 was successfully held in West Aceh. The Acting (Pj) Regent of Sikka, Adrianus Firminus Parera, SE., M.Si at the launching of the Maumere Weaving Center expressed his appreciation for the synergy that has been built between related parties.

"Hopefully, this synergy will continue," said Adrianus.

Meanwhile, one of the group representatives said that the Weaving program not only made the people of Sikka proud, but also made Indonesia proud.

"The success of this program will create superior products that are able to compete in national and global markets," he said.

Participating in the eMpowering Youths Across ASEAN Program, Insan Bumi Mandiri Will Expand the Tenun.in Program. The event continued with the awarding of Foreign Exchange Village Vests to representatives of the Roa Rero Weavers Group as a sign of the inauguration of the East Nusa Tenggara Tenun Cluster Foreign Exchange Village. This inauguration was followed by a symbolic handover of loom aids, which further strengthens the commitment to encourage weaving crafts to be known more widely and internationally.

It is hoped that regional governments can continue to provide support in fostering and developing regional potential. This program is expected to make the Roa Rero Group and 22 other assisted groups, global supply chain actors, which will ultimately increase national exports.
