Increasing Inter-Regional Connectivity, PT SMI Synergizes to Support Financing the Construction of Two National Strategic Project Toll Roads
Depok, April 2 2024. University of Indonesia (UI) and PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (Persero) (PT SMI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (NKB) in cooperation on Education, Research and Community Service. The signing, which was carried out on Tuesday 2 April 2024, in the Floating Room, UI Library, was carried out by the Deputy Chancellor for Human Resources and Assets at UI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Dedi Priadi, DEA and President Director of PT SMI, Edwin Syahruzad.
In his speech, Prof. Dedi said that this collaboration opened up opportunities for good collaboration between UI and PT SMI. "We are very open to collaborating with PT SMI in the context of strengthening the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. "The signing of the NKB and the cooperation agreement between UI and PT SMI is clear evidence of the commitment to work together to create a real positive impact in infrastructure development and human resource development in Indonesia," said Prof. Dedi.
The collaboration carried out by UI and PT SMI will cover five things, namely research; capacity building and training activities; knowledge dissemination activities; partnerships in student field work practice/internship programs; as well as corporate social responsibility/community empowerment. For the initial stage, the collaboration between UI and PT SMI was carried out with the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) and the Faculty of Public Health (FKM). The collaboration includes internship and research programs in the fields of economics and business, as well as public health.
It is hoped that this collaboration will provide an opportunity for FEB and FKM UI students to be involved in an internship program at PT SMI, as well as conducting research that is relevant to the industrial world and the field of public health. This will be a good first step for students to become competent professionals, so they are able to compete in the competitive world of work. UI's goal of producing quality human resources is in line with PT SMI's vision and mission.
PT SMI (Persero) is a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) which specializes in infrastructure financing in eight operational sectors, namely roads and bridges, transportation, oil and gas, telecommunications, waste management, electricity, irrigation and drinking water supply. This company was founded in 2009 as a driving force in encouraging social, economic and environmental growth in Indonesia. PT SMI moves to provide benefits to society through socially and economically conscious actions; as well as promoting sustainability through Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate change mitigation.
Edwin Syahruzad said that currently the SMI Institute (SMII) has been formed as a form of PT SMI's transformation to develop knowledge through research, capacity building and research publications. "I think this collaboration with UI will increase our research capacity which was already good, coupled with the existence of SMII. "We believe that adequate research support will be useful for us as a basis for strategic decision making in efforts to accelerate development," said Edwin.
The collaboration between UI and PT SMI is a form of synergy between educational institutions and industry in developing knowledge through education, research and community service. This collaboration is expected to increase the transfer of knowledge and technology, as well as develop educational curricula that are relevant to the needs of the job market.
