Capacity Building and Technical Assistance for the Fulfillment of the Corrective Action Plan ESS 8 Element – Cultural Heritage

As part of PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (Persero) (“the Company”) commitment to good corporate governance, the Company is dedicated to managing its business activities in an environmental and social responsible manner, avoiding or minimizing negative environmental and social impacts, and enhancing positive impacts from the business activities in which it is involved. Therefore, in conducting its financing and investment activities, project development, and consultancy services for infrastructure projects, the Company seeks to implement environmental and social protection measures.

As part of this environmental and social protection effort, the Company established the Environmental, Social, and Technical Evaluation Division (DELST) in 2016. The formation of DELST marked the initial implementation of the ten Environmental and Social Safeguard (ESS) standards across all operational lines. This is carried out through feasibility assessments of financing plans, via Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD) studies, and the issuance of Corrective Action Plan (CAP) recommendations to improve the environmental and social management practices of each borrower.

DELST has systematically conducted monitoring through monthly CAP compliance reports and periodic evaluations and assessments for each borrower regarding their environmental and social management compliance and performance quality. DELST also continues to coordinate with Relationship Managers (RMs) to encourage CAP fulfillment by borrowers. To support this, DELST periodically provides technical assistance and/or capacity building for borrowers.

The implementation of capacity building represents a form of support aimed at decision-makers and personnel responsible for environmental and social protection aspects. This capacity building activity also serves as a platform for sharing knowledge and experiences among project implementers, including recommendations for future improvements.

The objectives of the Capacity Building are to:

  1. Improve the quality of environmental and social protection implementation by borrowers;
  2. Strengthen borrowers' commitment to environmental and social protection implementation;
  3. Foster better relationships with borrowers;
  4. Demonstrate commitment to environmental and social protection implementation to shareholders, stakeholders, and multilateral institutions.
